Coffee + Energy

Many people don't realize that Monster Energy also has a coffee line called Java Monster. It's coffee plus energy! There are currently seven flavors. View the lineup below!

I wanted to share a story about how the studio was tasked with creating promotional content for Java Monster.

We usually didn’t work on marketing content, but we were asked to assist with this shoot, so we took this project very seriously.

I remember going into the studio one day, and the team was prepping all the gear for the shoot. We had so many bags of coffee beans! They also bought cookies, cinnamon sticks, and cinnamon powder. It was definitely going to be a messy shoot.

It took us forever to set up the first shot. We had to set up the camera on a tripod and angle it correctly. The lighting took forever to set up. You can see how many lights were in the shot. We also had to figure out how to make the items fly high enough so they were all in focus in the shot.

We shot on a RED camera in 4k at 60fps, and the focus was in manual, so we had to make sure when we hit the bottom of the tarp, that all the items came up high enough so they were in focus.

I remember having to do so many takes on this one shot. We had to reset the shot every time, and you could imagine how dirty and dusty the area got with the cinnamon flying around every five minutes.

This wasn't the final shot, but this is how it would look in camera.

This wasn't the only shot we had to shoot that day. We ended up shooting with the can, but this was less intense.

Yes, my manager, Ryan, at the time, was spraying cinnamon to get a dusty look on camera. Kayla’s clothes were brown after that day lol

Shoots like this taught me patience, attention to detail, and how much planning goes into even a few seconds of polished content. Have you ever watched a commercial and wondered what happened behind the scenes?
